📌 Introduction
To comply with the BS 7666 Standard and NLPG/NSG preferences, NGz follows a set of conventions:
Define level of detail to be recorded.
Standardize codes for specific meanings.
Specify which data fields are mandatory or optional.
NGz will guide you through entering data for any new street. When in doubt, refer to the conventions.
🗂️ Street Entities
NGz allows, and sometimes requires, certain data entities to be recorded.
Entities and their relationships are illustrated below:
The conventions also define data flow between authorities. See NSG Updates for details.
🏷️ Street Levels and Types
-
Level 1 Street:
The basic representation per BS7666.
-
Defined by two pairs of spatial coordinates:
Start point
End point
Continuous features (e.g., roundabouts) may have identical start and end coordinates.
From the Streets tab, you can only create Level 1 streets, although Level 2 and 3 streets are also maintained in the gazetteer.
-
Levels 2 & 3 Streets:
Derived from Elementary Street Units (ESUs).
These provide more granular detail about street structure.
