📖 Introduction
To comply with the BS 7666 Standard and meet the requirements preferred by NLPG, a set of conventions has been defined covering:
The level of detail that must be recorded.
Standard codes for specific meanings.
Which data items are mandatory or optional.
Within NGz, data entry is guided by these conventions. The system will allow (and sometimes require) specific entities to be recorded for any new item. If unsure, always refer to the conventions.
A diagram defines the relevant entities.
These conventions also cover the flow of data between authorities.
🏷️ Street Naming and Numbering (SNN)
Close coordination is required between:
LLPG Custodian
LSG Custodian
Street Naming and Numbering (SNN) role
Key Points:
The SNN function is defined by legislation, which sets out responsibilities for maintaining official names and numbers.
The custodian may or may not be part of the SNN function. If not, processes must be in place to keep them synchronised.
SNN officers often receive requests from external sources, such as developers. Proposed schemes may be adopted as submitted or amended after consultation.
SNN must either:
Check validity directly in the LLPG and LSG, or
Liaise with custodians before confirming details.
Responsibilities:
SNN: Provides the approved street name and number for a property.
LLPG Custodian: Maintains BLPU, LPI, and LLPG street data.
LSG Custodian: Maintains street gazetteer content.
Both SNN and LLPG custodians may share responsibility for disseminating address change information.
