Using Maps For Spatial Records - Streets

📍 Street Levels and Types

• Level 1 Street

  • Defined by the BS7666 standard as the most basic possible representation of a street.

  • Represented by just two pairs of spatial co-ordinates:

    • Start point

    • End point

  • Continuous features (e.g., roundabouts) may be represented with a start and end point that are identical.

  • 👉 From the Streets tab, you can only create a Level 1 street.

• Level 2 & Level 3 Streets

  • Maintained in the gazetteers in addition to Level 1.

  • Derived from their component parts: Elementary Street Units (ESUs).

  • 

• Street Type

  • You should also understand what is meant by Street Type, as functions available may be restricted depending on type.

🗺️ Displaying a Street on the Map

From the Streets Tab (in BW)

1. Select the Streets tab in the BW.

2. Choose a street.

3. Right-click → Select Map from the pop-up menu.

   • Result: The street graphic record is centred on the GGP screen.

   

📌 Alternative: Double-click the street record in the BW grid to map it directly.

From GGP View

• You can also select Streets from GGP View.

• When a query location contains multiple options, you may see:

  • STREET

  • ESU

  • ASD types: Interest, Construction, SpecialDesig, HWW, PROW

• All available options are displayed in a list so the user can decide which record to view.

⚠️ If the first record found corresponds to the currently selected NGz tab, there is no ambiguity—that record is selected automatically.

• To view alternatives: switch to another NGz tab and re-select the map item.

⚠️ System Messages

• After calling or completing an action involving GIS, the message “GGP is busy” may appear.

• ✅ Wait until this message disappears before performing another action.

• At other times, this panel is also used to display instructions needed to complete specific functions.
