User Control – Overview and Setup

🔐 What is User Control?

User Control is a GGP feature designed to:

• 🔐 Implement a security model to restrict access to GGP applications.

• 🚀 Launch GGP applications through the GGP Application Launcher.

• 👥 Set up departments and users with customised access.

• ✅ Validate or convert older GGP licences.

🛠️ Running User Control for the First Time

When first launched:

• A default Corporate Administrator user (Admin) and department (Admin) are pre-created.

• A LOCK directory is generated to store User Control system files.

• Users are managed via a user table, with access defined by User Type.

• The Admin user won’t have a Personal.INI file initially—this is expected.

✅ To fix this:

• Assign a valid department to the Admin user.

• Ensure the department has valid directory paths set.

• You may delete the default department/user and create your own with valid paths.

📌 A Personal.INI is auto-created once a valid department is linked to a user.

🧑‍💼 Setting Up a Corporate Administrator

1. Launch the GGP Applications Launcher

   Most options will be greyed out except the Users icon.

2. Open User Control Maintenance

   • Click Users > View | Departments or use the Setup Dept toolbar button.

3. Create a Department

   

   • Name it (e.g. IT or Admin).

   • Click Edit/Save Directory Settings... to configure required directories.

   • Refer to Setting Up Directories Article if needed.

   • Click on the Table View button which will take you back to the first screen. 

4. Create the Admin User

   • Click User | New or use the New User toolbar button.

   • Enter user details and set Type as Corp Admin.

   • Click Directories: View/Modify... to review/save user directory settings.

     

5. Save & Exit

   • After saving the user, click Exit button to return to Table View.

   • Log out using File > Exit or the close icon button.

6. Log In as Corporate Administrator

   • Use the Log On option from the GGP Applications Launcher.

   • Enter the new Admin’s credentials.

     

7. Continue Setup

   • Once logged in, toolbar updates will reflect the logged-in user and department.

   • You can now add more departments, users, and validate licences.

✅ Final Step: Validate Licences

Important: GGP will not function until licences have been validated.
Be sure to complete this step after setting up users and departments.
