π§ Overview
GGP uses multiple directory paths for managing overlays, exports, maps, and personal or shared data. These paths can be set from several modules, each offering different levels of access and configuration.
π§ Where to Define Directory Locations
π οΈ 1. Setup Application (ATFED_32.EXE)
Go to Tools > View Directories.
Allows limited directory changes to avoid conflicts during setup.
GGP offers to create new directories if the path doesnβt exist.
Personal and Shared folders are grouped separately for clarity.
π€ 2. User Control Maintenance (GMAIN32.EXE)
Navigate via User > Edit > Directories (View/Modify) or Setup Departments.
Setup Departments provides full control over directory paths.
Environment variables or UNC paths can be used for shared folders.
Avoid editing directory paths from User > Personal INI β this view is for support only.
β οΈ Important: Donβt run
GMAIN32.EXEon the GIS server unless absolutely necessary. Follow proper UNC path formatting when configuring shared directories.
π 3. GGP Application (GGP32.EXE)
Navigate to Options > Directories.
Limited to editing 4 specific paths.
Browse instead of typing to avoid invalid paths.
π Key Directory Types & Their Uses
| Directory | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Home | Personal GGP data. Use local disk if using one PC, or a network path for roaming/backup. |
| Group | Shared workspace for a specific workgroup. |
| Department | Shared by users within a department. |
| Corporate | Read-only sharing across departments. |
| Default Export | Output directory for generated GGP files. Recommended: C:\GGPWIN\EXPORT |
| GGP | Program/system file directory. Should not be changed. |
| Map Database | Location of the current GGP map database. |
| LocalMapDB | Stores locally cached map tiles for faster access. |
| Raster Database | Stores bitmap images used alongside basemaps. |
| Temp | Working directory for GGP session files. Must exist with read-write permissions. |
| DXF Export | Default location for DXF file exports. |
π UNC Paths & Environment Variables
You can toggle between using UNC paths (e.g.,
\\Server\GGPWIN) and environment variables (e.g.,%GGP_SHARE%).Use UNC for network consistency; avoid mapped drives if possible.
Disable the checkbox to view/edit as raw file paths (WYSIWYG).
πΎ Saving Your Configuration
Click [Save Now!] to immediately write changes to
GGP.INI.Especially useful when switching between map databases.
πΌοΈ Customising Within GGP
Map Options:
Options > Basemapβ Configure OS LandLine feature visibility.Display Options:
Options > Displayβ Adjust display, print, and grid settings.
β Best Practices
Always browse for directories rather than typing.
Use UNC or environment variables for shared paths.
Confirm paths exist and have correct permissions.
Avoid changes on the GIS server where possible.
