📚 Overview
If GGP has been installed on a server, you can create a Default Client installation to streamline setup across multiple workstations. A Default Client captures a complete configuration from one workstation and applies it to others, saving time and ensuring consistency.
❓ What is the Default Client for?
A Default Client acts as a template for workstation settings across your GGP network. It should only be saved after fully configuring one workstation with all required settings, such as:
OS data and overlays
Display preferences
Thresholds
Support programs
⚠️ Do not save Default Client settings too early—finalize all configurations first.
👥 Department-Specific Default Clients
GGP supports department-specific Default Clients, which enables:
Departmental Admins to create default setups for their users
Easy restoration of user profiles by reapplying the Default Client
Example: If a user profile becomes corrupted, running Create/Update GGP User/Wkstn will reapply the department’s Default Client setup.
📍 How to Access This Option
Open GGP Applications (
GMAIN32.EXE)Click the [User] button to launch User Control
In the menu, go to:
Tools > Save Settings as Default Client
To apply a department’s Default Client to a workstation:
Tools > Create/Update GGP User/Wkstn
🧰 Preparing a Workstation for Default Client
Before saving a Default Client setup, ensure the workstation meets the following:
✅ OS data and overlays are loaded
✅ Standard View script is present in the user's home directory
✅ Thresholds are set (Basemap, Raster DB, Overlays)
✅ Display preferences are configured (especially for OS Basemap)
✅ Support programs (e.g., report generator) are set
✅ Optional: 'StartUpBMP=' is set in
LOCK.INIfor a custom splash screen✅ Consistent UNC or mapped-drive paths are used for network home directories
✅ At least one print template is accessible to all users - if you wish to print maps
🖥️ This setup must be done on a workstation, not the server.
🔍 How to Test Your Default Client
Start GGP Applications Launcher and log in.
Click [GGP]
Verify Standard View exists:
File > New Script > Standard View(map should display)Check overlays:
Options > Overlays(overlays should be listed)From [Users], open User Control
Click:
Tools > Save Settings as Default Client
📝 Summary
Setting up a Default Client in GGP ensures a consistent and efficient deployment of workstation configurations across departments. It’s a powerful feature for both Corporate and Departmental Administrators and serves as a fallback for user profile recovery.
