This article describes various methods to bring up a map display in the GGP software.
Using Standard View
To use the Standard View, select File | New Script | Standard View.
If the administrator has set up a standard view with a map background, this will generate a 'NEWMAP01' script with 'Standard Graphics' as an overlay, on top of the pre-determined background map view. This option displays a view based on a pre-defined script called STDVIEW.SCR.
After amending the view (e.g., changing the map area or adding overlays), you can save the script with a new name by choosing File | Save As, typing a file name, and clicking [OK].
Using the Map Reference
To use a Map Reference, select File | New Script | Map Sheet reference.
Enter either a Map Sheet Reference for your area (e.g., TQ4584NE) or a Viewport Centre Point (6 digit Eastings & Northings) with a viewport size of your choice. When you select [OK], a viewport will be drawn based on the information you specified.
After amending the view, you can save the script with a new name by choosing File | Save As, typing a file name, and clicking [OK].
Using Gazetteers
To use Gazetteers, select File | New Script | [Gazetteer].
A gazetteer is a searchable database of records that allows you to select a single record based on specified criteria. The gazetteers available in the File | New Script list depend on which overlays have been indexed and made available to you.
When you select a gazetteer, a search screen will appear, allowing you to search for a specific record in your overlay. The available search fields will vary with the overlays.
Enter the text you wish to search for into any of the gazetteer enquiry fields (not case-dependent), and press [Enter] or click on the [Search] button. Any matching records will be displayed. If more than one record is found, the [Search] button becomes a [Table] button, allowing you to display the chosen records in a scrollable list. You can then choose one.
Click on [ViewMap] to display a map centered on that location.
After amending the view, you can save the script with a new name by choosing File | Save As, typing a file name, and clicking [OK].
Using Scripts
Script files are configuration files for setting and storing the startup of a particular map. They contain the screen height and width and the current viewport settings. Script files enable users to store a "Project," which is a setup of various types of information that can be restored to its last accessed state.
After saving a new script file, you can use it again by selecting File | Open Script.
You can have three Script Files open at any one time.
If you ticked the 'Start Script with this Gazetteer' option on previous screens, that type of startup will run automatically whenever that particular script is loaded.
