🔍 What is a Personal INI File?

The Personal INI file stores individual user settings in GGP. These include directories, preferences, and configuration details that were previously stored in the global GGP.INI file.

Each user's file is named using their LoginID with a .INI extension (e.g., ABC123.INI) and is unique to their department.

📁 Locating the Personal INI File

To find or edit your Personal INI:

Open User Control Maintenance
Select User ➜ Personal INI...
GGP will open your Personal INI file in Notepad (as a temporary file for editing).

⚠️ If the file does not exist:
Click Edit User button in the toolbar.
Tick Update User.
Use Create/Update GGP User/WkStn to generate the necessary files.

🛠️ File Path Structure

You can locate a Personal INI manually using the following path:

Licence Directory\LOCK\CLIENT\DepartmentName\LoginID.INI

From GGP 2014 onwards, the INI is not stored as a file but as an object in the user record. When edited, it's copied to a temporary file and updated back after saving.

✨ Benefits of Personal INIs

Introduced in GGP v2.7, Personal INIs support roving profiles — allowing users to retain settings across different PCs.

Key advantages:

Personalised HomeDir, GroupDir, and RasterDB settings
Different local drive paths per user
Overrides department-level working directories

⚙️ Migrating from Older Versions

When upgrading older user accounts:

Default Behaviour: Department INI is used to populate settings.
Exception: If the last user of the old GGP version matches the current LoginID, settings are pulled from the existing GGP.INI, except DeptDir and CorpDir (which still come from the Department INI).

✅ Ensure the [Directories] HomeDir in GGP.INI still points to the original location to retrieve settings correctly.

🔧 Advanced Notes

Some settings (e.g., Debug=File) must still be edited directly in the INI file.
Changes made via the UI in GGP often update the Personal INI automatically.
