GGP OS MasterMap Upload Process

This article explains how to upload Ordnance Survey (OS) MasterMap data into GGP.

1. Prepare the Data

Place the OS MasterMap data you receive from Ordnance Survey into a folder accessible by GGP.

2. Back Up the MasterMap Database

Before loading new OS MasterMap data, it’s strongly recommended to take a backup of your existing database.

To create a backup:

1. Open SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).

2. Expand Databases.

3. Right-click your MasterMap database and select:
   Tasks > Back Up...

4. Save the backup to:

   :\SQL Backups
   

5. Name the file using the current date:

   DDMMYYYY.bak
   

6. Click OK to complete the backup.

3. Launch the MasterMap Loader

You can launch the loader in one of two ways:

• From the GGP App Server shared drive:
  Navigate to your program location and run the latest MMLoader.exe.

• From within GGP Maps:
  Open Gmain32.exe and run the loader from there.

4. Configure Connection Settings

The loader normally remembers your connection settings, but you can verify them as follows:

1. Click SQL Server > Next > Edit.

2. Enter the details:

   • Hostname:

   • Database Name:

   • OS Authentication: Checked

3. Click OK > Next.

⚠️ Important: When running change-only updates, do not select the Archive option at any stage.

5. Configure Process Settings

1. Source Folder:
   Select the location of the MasterMap .gz files.
   Click Next.

2. Output Folder:
   Set this to:

   Outputs\MM Processed
   

   ⚠️ The output folder must be located on the SQL Server hosting the MasterMap database.

3. Choose the type of update:

   • Change-only Update: Updates existing data.

   • Full Load: Clears the current MasterMap database before loading new data.

   ⚠️ Full Load will delete all existing data from the MasterMap database before applying updates.

4. Verify the following fields:

   • Order Reference: Should populate automatically.

   • Load Date: Should default to today’s date.

5. Click Next > Next > Next > Finish.

⚠️ When performing change-only updates, ensure you do not select the Archive option.

6. Monitor the Upload

The loader will begin uploading the new map data.
This process can take up to an hour or more, depending on the size of the update.

💡 Note: During large updates, the MasterMap Loader may display “Not Responding”.
This is normal—please be patient. The process will eventually complete.

7. Completion

Once the process finishes, the new OS MasterMap data will be successfully loaded into GGP.
