Adding Features - Enter Co-ordinates

📝 Overview

The Enter Co-ordinates tool allows you to manually place features using known National Grid co-ordinates.

When selected, the Easting and Northing values shown by default will be the current cursor position, but you can overwrite these with the precise co-ordinates you require.

🔹 Adding Points

1. Select Add → Symbol or use the Symbol speed button.

2. Select Edit Attributes if necessary.

3. Open the Right-button menu and choose Enter Co-ordinates.

4. Enter the Easting and Northing values.

5. Click OK → The symbol is placed at the specified location.

💡 Handy hint: Use this when you need to record exact point locations such as survey markers or asset references.

🔹 Adding Polygons and Polylines

1. Select Add → Polygon or Add → Polyline, or use the relevant speed button.

2. Select Edit Attributes if necessary.

3. Open the Right-button menu and choose Enter Co-ordinates.

4. Enter the Easting and Northing values.

5. Click OK → The start point of the polygon or polyline is placed at the specified location.

6. Repeat the Enter Co-ordinates option for subsequent points if required.

🔹 Adding Circles and Rectangles

Circles and rectangles behave similarly to polygons but with slight differences:

• Rectangle:

  • The first point = top-left corner.

  • The second point = opposite corner → rectangle is drawn between them.

• Circle:

  • The first point = centre of the circle.

  • The second point = a point on the circle’s perimeter → the circle is drawn through that point.

🔔 Note: This allows for accurate geometric construction when overlaying features.

🎯 Combining with Snapping

The Enter Co-ordinates function can be used in combination with snapping and mouse clicking, allowing you to mix precise co-ordinate entry with interactive feature placement.

⚠️ Warning: Always check that your Easting and Northing values are correct before pressing OK, as features are fixed at the entered position.
