Overview
When creating polygons, you may need to add holes (interior areas that are excluded from the polygon). This guide walks you through the process of adding holes to new polygons step-by-step.
🔹 Step-by-Step Instructions
Start a New Polygon
Select Add | Polygon from the menu or click the Add Polygon toolbar button.
Draw your polygon as usual by clicking to add vertices.
Finish the Polygon Outline
When your polygon outline is complete, select Add | Finish or click the [Confirm] button.
Important: Do not click [Save] yet, as you still need to add holes.
Add a Hole to the Polygon
Select Add | Hole-in-Polygon from the menu.
Draw the hole inside the polygon just like you drew the polygon outline.
The hole must be fully contained within the polygon boundaries; otherwise, an error will occur.
Complete the Hole
Click [Finish] when your hole shape is complete.
You will notice the area displayed in the status bar is negative, showing that the hole is subtracted from the polygon’s area.
Add More Holes (Optional)
To add additional holes, repeat Step 3 and Step 4 for each hole.
Save Your Polygon with Holes
When you have finished adding all holes, click [Save] to save the polygon and all holes as a single record.
⚠️ Important Notes
You can add multiple holes to a single polygon record before optionally adding more polygons with holes to the same record.
The maximum number of holes allowed in a polygon is 2560.
If you receive an error when adding a hole, check that the hole is entirely inside the polygon boundary and try again.
💡 Tips
Use the Zoom and Pan tools to precisely draw holes inside your polygon boundaries.
The negative area calculation helps verify holes are correctly subtracted from the polygon area.
Avoid saving until you have finished adding all holes to prevent incomplete records.
