You can only add polygons to Area type overlays. Check the overlay type on the Main Details page in the Setup Application.
Important: Make sure the overlay you want to edit is set as the Foreground Overlay.
(See Selecting Foreground & Background Overlays for details.)
These steps also apply when adding polygons in Draw Polygon Search or Edit Graphics.
▶️ Start Adding a Polygon
From the menu, click Add → Polygon
Or click the Polygon button on the toolbar
Once activated, menu options will grey out and the Abort and Confirm buttons become active—indicating you’re in add mode.
Right-click anywhere on the map to access the polygon options menu.
✏️ Drawing Your Polygon
After setting polygon attributes, click the map to place the starting vertex.
Continue clicking points to trace the polygon’s shape.
Optionally, use the snapping tool for precise alignment (refer to Snap).
When finished, right-click and select Finish to close the polygon.
The polygon’s Area and Length display in the status bar.
If your overlay design includes fields for these, they update automatically.
💾 Save or Clear Your Work
Click Save to commit your polygon.
If linked to an Overlay Database, the data entry form appears automatically.
Click Clear to discard changes and start over.
🗺️ Bonus: Use MasterMap Polygons
You can also select existing MasterMap polygons to create your new polygon feature instantly.
💡Pro Tips:
Before drawing, zoom in for accuracy.
Use the snapping feature to connect exactly to existing map features.
Don’t forget to save after finishing to avoid losing work!
