Metafile Export in GGP

The Metafile Export option allows you to create a Windows MetaFile (.EMF) from GGP, including the selected OS map and overlay details.
This export can be easily inserted into applications such as Microsoft Word or CAD systems.

Export Basics

• By default, the exported file:

  • Uses the current session name with a .EMF extension.

  • Is saved to the default export directory (defined in Options | Directories).

• You can use the standard Save As dialog to:

  • Change the filename.

  • Browse to a different location.

Steps to Export a Metafile

1. Open the script you want to export.

2. Display all overlays you want to include.

3. Go to File | Metafile Export.

4. The Metafile Export dialog box will appear.

Map Area Options

When you choose either the 1Km or 500m mapsheet options, GGP displays a clipping box matching the size of the selected mapsheet.
If gridlines are displayed, you can snap to the nearest line when selecting an area.

Available options:

Option	Description
Current View	Exports the map area currently visible onscreen.
1 Km tile	Enabled only if current view > 1 km.
500m tile	Enabled only if current view > 500 m.
User Defined	Allows you to draw or specify a custom box size.

User Defined Method

• To draw manually:

  1. Select User Defined in the Map Area group.

  2. Click OK – you’ll return to the map view.

  3. Left-click to set the top-left corner.

  4. Drag out a rectangle to the desired size.

  5. Release the mouse button to confirm.

  6. The EMF Export dialog will reappear for additional settings.

• To set exact dimensions:

  1. Right-click anywhere on the map.

  2. In the Box Dimensions dialog, enter:

     • Measurements in metres (ground) or millimetres (page).

  3. Click OK to return to the map.

  4. A box with your dimensions will be centred around the cursor.

Tip: Resizing the Box

Drawing with left-click:

• Starts at an anchor point and drags out a rectangle.

• Cannot be resized after creation.

Drawing with right-click (floating frame):

• Shift → Resize from centre point.

• Right-click → Anchors the frame.

• Ctrl → Switch to floating mode for moving the frame without changing size.

These modes can be combined depending on when keys are pressed/released.

Saving the Metafile

1. In the Save dialog:

   • Specify the file name and location.

2. Click OK – the metafile is saved to the chosen folder.

Drawing Size vs. Select Scale

• Drawing Size

  • Output size defined in millimetres.

  • Scale is adjusted automatically to fit dimensions.

• Select Scale

  • Output produced at a specified map scale.

  • Dimensions are calculated automatically.

Quick Tip:
For a quick extract of the current view, select a suitable scale and ensure the drawing size fits your document.

Fill Pattern Drawing & Raster Method

Two drawing methods are available:

1. GGP Method

2. Windows Method

Some printer drivers (e.g., Postscript) may not support all methods, resulting in missing or incorrect fill patterns.
If issues occur, try the alternative method.

• Enlarge Patterns: Makes fill patterns closer to on-screen appearance when printed.

• Settings are saved at a departmental level in GGP.

Additional Notes

• OS Land-Line detail uses BS1192 part 5 layer naming.

• Overlay detail layers are named after their overlay filenames.

• Attributes are taken from current display settings, not printer settings.

• Files are exported at 1:1 scale with:

  • Grid interval from display grid settings.

  • Frame around the export area (for clipping in AutoCAD®).
