Understanding and Using Script Files in GGP
Overview
GGP displays digital map data using Script Files, which are configuration files that store and set up the startup of a specific map. These files contain details such as screen height, width, and current viewport settings.
What Are Script Files?
Script files allow you to save a "Project"—a specific setup of maps and overlays that can be restored to the exact state from when it was last accessed.
A script file can contain:
OS map information in vector, raster, or both formats
Selected overlay details
A bitmap of the previous state for almost instantaneous redisplay
You can have up to three script files open at a time. Once three scripts are open, the File | Open option becomes unavailable.
If the last-used gazetteer had Start Script with this Gazetteer enabled, the Gazetteer Enquiry will automatically run whenever the script loads.
Local Scripts
To improve performance, local files are used instead of relying solely on network files.
See Enhancing Performance for details on settings.
Improvements in GGP 2014 include:
Adding invalid layers to the session and script catalogs so that some startup errors are no longer displayed.
When a script references an invalid layer, the layer will be ignored instead of producing an error.
Note:
If you attempt to click OK in the Overlay Selection dialog while invalid layers are selected, an error will appear. You must either deselect the invalid layer or cancel the operation.
Both the Local Script (LSC) file and the screen image for corporate, departmental, or group scripts are stored:
In the Home directory (if it is on a local hard disk)
On a local folder specified by LocalPCDir in
LOCK.INIor byTEnvironment.AppDataFolderif the Home directory is on a network driveIn the Home directory for diskless workstations
Viewport Settings
The standard viewport for a session is read from the StdVP key in the Map Settings section of your personal INI file.
Users can manually set (
prime) theStdVPin their INI file.If Options | Save Settings on Exit is checked, the current session’s
StdVPwill be saved back to the INI file.
When New Script | Standard View is used, the session’s StdVP updates from the Standard View’s viewport.
Default Behavior When Creating a New Script:
By default, GGP uses the session’s
StdVPfor the script’s viewport. If created using New Script options (Gazetteer, Land & Property Gazetteer, Map Sheet Reference, or Standard View), the viewport updates from the selected option.
If created directly via the GGPCommand
NEW SCRIPTwithout viewport details, the script will keep the session’sStdVP. In practice, a zoom command is typically used to adjust the view rather than leaving the default.
