Scrolling the Map in GGP

The Scroll function in GGP allows you to navigate the map view using various input methods such as the mouse, keyboard, or toolbar. This guide explains each method and the customizable options available.

Starting Scroll Mode

To enter Scroll Mode, click the Scroll button on the toolbar.

Left Mouse Button Behavior

There are two settings for how the left mouse button behaves in Scroll mode. These are configured via:

Options > General

Zoom Area (default): Allows drawing a new frame for the map view.
Pan: Enables dragging the map view.

⚙️ These settings are saved in the User.INI file under the General section. If not set by the user, the system will default to the Department.INI file.

Scrolling Methods

1. Zoom Area Scroll (Default)

Click and drag to draw a frame.
The map will be redrawn at the same scale, centered on the new location.
Release the mouse to update the view.
Exit Scroll mode by clicking Abort on the toolbar or pressing Esc.

2. Pan Scroll

Allows click-and-drag to reposition the map, similar to using a mouse wheel.
While in Pan mode, you can temporarily switch back to Zoom Area by:
- Holding Alt
- Clicking and dragging to draw a frame

3. Scroll an Exact Distance

While in Scroll mode, move the cursor in your desired direction.
Right-click to bring up a distance input dialog.
Enter the scroll distance (in meters) from the current map center.
Click OK and the map will update accordingly.

4. Scroll with Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl + X

Move the cursor to the desired center point.
Press Ctrl + X to center the map at that position.
This does not activate Scroll mode.
No need to press Escape or Abort afterward.

5. Scroll Using Mouse Wheel or Spacebar

Using the Mouse Wheel:

Click and hold the mouse wheel.
Drag and release to reposition the map based on mouse movement.
This simulates pulling the map underneath the view.
- Example: Drag from left to right → view shifts left.
This behavior is independent of the Left Button Setting.

⚠️ Avoid rotating the wheel during release if you don't intend to zoom.

Using the Spacebar:

Press and hold the spacebar.
Move the mouse (no clicks needed).
The map will move as if you’re dragging it.
Release the spacebar to stop scrolling.
Prevents accidental zooming via mouse wheel.

6. Scroll Using Numeric Keypad

Use the numeric keypad to scroll relative to the current map center (represented by "5"):

[4] [5] [6]
[1] [2] [3]

Each number scrolls the view half a screen in that direction.
Like Ctrl + X, this does not activate Scroll mode.
No need to exit or cancel after scrolling.

Zoom Menu - Scroll (Zoom Menu, Toolbar)
