Overview
The Zoom Area tool allows you to zoom into a specific area of the map by drawing a rectangle or by entering exact dimensions. This article covers both methods and offers tips for resizing the zoom frame with keyboard shortcuts.

Using the Zoom Area Tool (Mouse Method)

1. Click on one corner of the area of interest.

2. While holding down the left mouse button, drag to the opposite corner.

3. Release the button to zoom into the selected area—the screen will redraw accordingly.

Note: If you are in Pan Scroll mode, press ALT to temporarily activate the Zoom Area function.

Using the Zoom Area Dialog (Exact Dimensions)

You can also specify the zoom area using exact ground or paper units:

1. Select Zoom Area from the menu or speed button.

2. Right-click on the map to open the Zoom Area dialog.

3. Enter width and height:

   • Units are in metres by default.

   • Units change to millimetres when the Page Area radio button is selected.

4. If Page Area is selected, the Scale field becomes active for further adjustment.

   

Tip: The Zoom Area tool is available even while in other modes (e.g., Add Polygon). When GGP is in its "waiting state," using the left button defaults to Zoom Area mode.

Resizing the Zoom Frame with Keyboard Shortcuts

While drawing your selection frame, you can use the following keys for more control:

• Left Mouse Click – Sets the anchor corner of the rectangle.

• Hold CTRL – Activates Floating Mode, allowing you to move the entire frame while keeping its size and shape fixed.

• Hold SHIFT – Activates Resize Mode, scaling the frame outward/inward from the center as you move the mouse.

You can combine CTRL and SHIFT depending on when each is pressed and released. Experiment with different combinations to find what works best for you.
