This article explains how to use the LandLine Simulation feature within MasterMap, including how to apply Monochrome and Greyscale settings to enhance the visual presentation of Ordnance Survey (OS) basemaps.
LandLine Simulation
The LandLine Simulation option allows you to apply current LandLine Display Settings to MasterMap data, producing a LandLine-style visualization. After conversion, you retain full control of each LandLine generic feature type—just as if it were native LandLine data.
Key Notes:
When LandLine Simulation is enabled, MasterMap thresholds are ignored, and LandLine settings are applied.
Vector data will not remain in structured MasterMap format during simulation. However, you can still select polygons using Inspect Feature or Select Feature tools.
If MasterMap Raster rendering is selected, the LandLine Simulation checkbox determines whether Topographic Raster or LandLine Simulation Raster layers are displayed.
Monochrome and Greyscale Display Options
You can override default color settings for both MasterMap and LandLine (including simulated LandLine) using the Monochrome option. This displays or prints all basemap features in a single, user-specified color—ideal for background maps overlaid with colored data layers.
MasterMap Exclusive Option:
Greyscale is available only for MasterMap. It preserves a gradient fill using the selected monochrome color.
Keyboard Shortcut:
Press
<Ctrl> + <Alt> + Gto toggle Greyscale on or off. This updates the setting in Display Options.
It does not affect Printer Options.
If a Monochrome color is selected, Greyscale applies a gradient effect using that color.
Important Note
If LandLine has been decommissioned, the OS LandLine Display Options will be disabled and appear greyed out in the interface.
